Cold blooded, with alien minds.

The merfolk are one of the few races on the planet that are NOT the result of devan experimentation. Pre-dating the Devan empire by millennia. However the empires of the Mer did not interact with the surface world until its discovery by devan explorers deep under the surface of the oceans.

Mer are incredibly cold by human standards, being literally cold blooded. This adaptation to living in deep water also makes their thinking and behavior seem alien to humans. They tend to seem very distant and stand-offish.

Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity, Charisma, and one other score of your choice each increase by 1.
Age. Merfolk age at about the same rate as humans.
Alignment. Merfolk tend towards neutrality
Size. Merfolk stand anywhere between 5 and 7 feet tall and tend to have slender, flexible, builds. Your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 ft., Your base swimming speed is 30 ft.
Amphibious. You can breathe both air and water.
Darkvision. you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.
Mask of the Seas. While in or near the water you can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, mist, mud, stone or other natural objects and phenomena.
Merfolk Weapon Training. You have proficiency with the net, spear, and trident
Underwater Ability. Underwater combat does not impose any penalties or disadvantages on movement or weapon attacks. While underwater you have Superior darkvision, you can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of grey.
Slippery. You add your proficiency to dexterity checks to escape grapples, bindings, manacles, or to squeeze through tight spaces.
